Why don't we have trash service provided by the HOA?
Our HOA is an all volunteer organization with a tiny budget, $80 a household equals 24K a year to manage the 24+ acres of common area, enforce our covenants as well as comply with all POAA laws imposed by the state of Virginia. The HOA is made up of the homeowners of all 318 houses who elect a board of nine voluteers amongst them to perform these tasks. We provide no other ancillary service other than that narrow scope due to constraints of our bylaws, namely the amount of money we can collect. Assessement increases are capped at 5% annually as stated in the bylaws.
In order to provide trash service for our 318 household we would need to collect a minimum of $115,000 more in dues annually to cover the cost, which is an increase of 600%.
